[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] LG Group is responding by each affiliate to employees dispatched to China as the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia) spreads throughout the country.
According to LG Group on the 28th, LG Electronics, LG Chem, LG CNS, and others have completely banned business trips to China starting from this day. However, LG Electronics and LG Chem announced that they will significantly strengthen the approval process if business trips to the region are necessary.
LG Electronics decided to return business travelers in China as soon as possible and informed its corporations within China of this matter. LG Chem and LG CNS are also taking measures to return all business travelers from China and plan to provide guidelines on preventive actions and response systems related to Wuhan pneumonia.
LG International decided to bring back all employees stationed in China and their families to Korea. In addition, employees and their families who have visited China and show suspected infection symptoms are instructed to immediately report to the company and follow subsequent measures.
LG Display is minimizing business trips to China and is guiding employees to report via text messages before and after visits if they must visit China. Before the visit, the purpose (personal or business) and duration of the visit are collected, and after the visit, employees are required to report any fever or other unusual symptoms.
LG Display plans to monitor the situation closely and respond flexibly, as stopping factory operations in the industry involves significant costs and time.
Meanwhile, the pneumonia outbreak originating in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, is rapidly spreading throughout China and neighboring Asian regions. As of the 28th, the number of deaths in China due to Wuhan pneumonia is 106, and the total confirmed cases in China are approaching 4,000. In Korea, the fourth confirmed case was reported on the same day.
