On the 28th, Jeonnam Province announced that it held the "COP28 Namhaean Namjung Region Hosting Committee Meeting" at the Mathieu Hotel in Yeosu, presided over by Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeonnam Province, with representatives from 10 cities in the Namhaean Namjung Region attending the UN Climate Change Convention (COP28) Parties Conference.
The COP28 Namhaean Namjung Region Hosting Committee was launched on December 16 last year at the Yeosu World Expo Hall, with about 1,200 residents from Jeonnam and Gyeongnam provinces attending the inauguration ceremony.
The Hosting Committee consists of a total of 157 members, including 4 co-chairpersons, 73 advisors and consultants, and 80 operating committee members.
Co-chairpersons Ryu Jung-gu and Cho Se-yoon proposed, "Jeonnam should host the first Korean event of the 'World Blue Sky Day' proposed by President Moon Jae-in to widely promote the intention to host COP28 Namhaean Namjung Region centered on Yeosu."
Governor Kim of Jeonnam said, "COP28 is the future vision of Gyeongnam and Jeonnam. To spread this enthusiasm throughout the Republic of Korea, I will actively request support from central government agencies such as the Blue House and the Ministry of Economy and Finance," adding, "Let the residents of the 10 cities and counties in the Namhaean Namjung Region centered on Yeosu also work together."
