[2020 Asia Consumer Awards] Ottogi Contributes to Food Industry Development... Targets Premium X.O. Dumplings


[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] At the '14th Asia Consumer Awards,' Ottogi, honored with the Korea Food Industry Association President's Award, is leading the domestic food industry by producing safe and reliable products and contributing to the development of the food industry. To improve productivity, it has invested 200 billion KRW in facilities over the past three years (2015?2017) and set a goal of achieving 100% operation rate.


Through the factory inspection system (OFAS), continuous improvements and preventive activities are carried out at the production site. In particular, to ensure continuous quality assurance, a quality planning inspection is conducted every January, and November is designated as the month for comprehensive raw material inspection, during which standards, specifications, and labeling of raw materials are verified, and the safety of partner companies is evaluated for an overall safety check of raw materials.


Starting with curry, the founding product in 1969, Ottogi has popularized products such as soup, ketchup, mayonnaise, retort pouch foods, and purely vegetable margarine in the domestic market for the first time, leading the advancement of food culture. Through relentless development of top technology, it has contributed to the modernization of the domestic food industry by expanding from seasoning foods, traditional foods, and food ingredients to staple industries such as ramen, instant rice, cup rice, dumplings, frozen foods, domestic tea, frozen bread, and desserts.


Recently, Ottogi has accelerated its entry into the dumpling market by launching the 'Premium X.O. Dumplings.' The 'Premium X.O. Dumplings' is Ottogi's premium dumpling brand made with the finest ingredients without sparing any expense. Generally, XO refers to 'Extra Old,' indicating brandy aged over 50 years. While brandy uses X.O. to denote aged quality, the X.O. dumplings were created with the meaning of 'extra ordinary,' signifying exceptional and surprising dumplings made from carefully selected ingredients never seen before.


Meanwhile, as a result of relentless efforts based on pioneering spirit and quality-first principles, Ottogi has achieved steady growth, surpassing 10 billion KRW in sales in 1979, 100 billion KRW in 1988, 1 trillion KRW in 2007, and 2 trillion KRW in 2017, holding the largest number of number-one products among domestic food companies.


To practice its corporate philosophy and become a company respected by society, Ottogi is also leading social contributions and the spread of shared growth. As a pioneer in fulfilling social responsibility, it was ranked 15th among the most respected companies by the Korea Management Association in 2019, selected as the CEO university students want to emulate and the number one company to work for by Korea Economic Campus Job & Joy in 2019.
