[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Yoo Seung-min, Chairman of the Conservative Reconstruction Committee of the New Conservative Party, which is undergoing party-to-party integration with the Liberty Korea Party, stated that election alliances or candidate unification could also be options for conservative integration.
On the 28th, after holding a meeting to condemn the prosecution personnel at the Blue House, Chairman Yoo told reporters, "The progressive side has often formed election alliances or unified candidates for election alliances, but the conservative side has little experience with that. I think election alliances and candidate unification are naturally options within the integration plan."
Earlier, on the 22nd, after visiting the 25th Army Division New Recruit Training Battalion in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, Chairman Yoo also hinted at the possibility of election alliances when meeting with reporters. However, when asked which is more feasible between merger and election alliance, he refrained from answering, saying, "I cannot answer that now."
When asked whether election alliances that increase the New Conservative Party's share would be more effective than mergers under the current election law, he replied, "I told (the Liberty Korea Party) three principles," adding, "I have not discussed shares or candidate nominations."
Regarding whether the satellite party strategy could be a variable in the integration, he said, "Since each party will hold elections until the end, and proportional representation seats are won according to the votes cast by the people, that is a matter for each party to handle," adding, "I am not thinking about negotiating with a party solely for proportional representation."
