Gangdong-gu Childbirth Celebration Allowance: 200,000 KRW for First Child, 300,000 KRW for Second Child

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) has increased the childbirth congratulatory money for the first and second child by 100,000 KRW each. From January this year, the first child will receive 200,000 KRW and the second child 300,000 KRW as childbirth congratulatory money.

Additionally, Gangdong-gu has expanded the eligibility for the special childbirth incentive, which was previously provided to families with four or more children, to families with three children, providing 100,000 KRW monthly for five years.

The special childbirth incentive can be applied for by families with three or more children whose youngest child is under five years old. Applications will be accepted from February 1 at the local community service centers of the applicant's residence.

From the month following the application date, families will receive 100,000 KRW per month per household until the eligible child is under five years old (0-59 months). Families with four or more children will receive 200,000 KRW per month per household for up to five years.

If there is a fourth or subsequent child entering elementary, middle, or high school, the family can receive an enrollment congratulatory money of 500,000 KRW, which Gangdong-gu has been providing since last year.

The eligibility for this support is families with four or more children who, as of the enrollment date, are registered as the same household with parents or guardians in Gangdong-gu.

The enrollment congratulatory money can be applied for within one year from the enrollment date by bringing identification, a copy of the bankbook, the enrollment notice, and a certificate of attendance or other enrollment-related documents to the local community service center of the applicant's residence.

Moreover, Gangdong-gu is implementing various policies such as shared childcare centers, child care services, and the WIN-WIN project supporting families with multiple children by companies to create a childbirth-friendly environment and reduce the child-rearing burden on younger generations.

Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon of Gangdong-gu said, “We hope that the expanded childbirth support policies implemented from this year will provide practical help to families with newborns and multiple children. We will continue to consider and develop various support measures to make Gangdong-gu a family-friendly city where it is good to have and raise children.”
