CJ O Shopping "Increase in 'Self-Spending' During Lunar New Year Holiday"

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] During the Lunar New Year holiday period, consumers focused their investments on "products for themselves," such as beauty and health care.


According to an analysis of sales over the four days of the Lunar New Year holiday (January 24?27) by CJ ENM O Shopping Division, the order amount for beauty and hair care products, including cosmetics and beauty devices, increased by 27% compared to the four days immediately before the holiday (January 20?23). Orders for health functional foods that aid in dieting also rose by 20%.


By significantly increasing the lineup of beauty and health foods immediately after Lunar New Year’s Day, it appears they attracted the attention of consumers who had neglected self-care while preparing for the holiday. The anti-aging functional cosmetic "La Vie en Essence Package" achieved an order amount of 800 million KRW within 70 minutes, exceeding its sales target by 50%. The "Cissus Row Secret Diet," aired on the last day of the holiday, also recorded orders worth 400 million KRW.


Products for family health care also gained popularity. Home appliance package broadcasts introducing dryers, clothing care devices, and washing machines?recently spotlighted as health management appliances?were aired twice during the holiday period, receiving about 2,000 calls. Rental products for medical devices such as joint therapy devices and spinal heating devices also received over 1,700 calls, surpassing targets.


High-priced travel package products continued to show strong sales. Over the four days of the holiday, travel broadcasts lasting more than one hour daily featuring destinations such as Turkey, Dubai, and Europe received over 7,000 orders. In particular, the "Business Class France Tour Package," introduced on CJ O Shopping’s travel-specialized program "Kkotboda Yeohaeng," attracted about 600 calls despite its high price of 5 million KRW.


O Shopping expects shopping demand based on compensatory psychology to continue and plans to consecutively introduce fashion, cosmetics, and food products starting from the 28th. On January 28 and 29, the "Fashion Sale Special Exhibition" will offer fashion products at up to 50% off during 2?4 hour sessions in the morning, afternoon, and early morning.


On the 30th, the "Luxury Boutique" program will broadcast luxury fashion accessories from brands such as Prada and Ferragamo.


Additionally, health functional foods like organic barley sprouts, probiotics, and Red Omega will be prominently featured, and on the upcoming Saturday, "Kang Joo-eun’s Good Life" will introduce the HuTech Swing Chair and Winix air purifier to support customers’ healing shopping experience.


A CJ ENM O Shopping Division official stated, "As more consumers open their wallets for self-care after the holidays, we expanded the lineup of beauty and health functional foods to meet customer demand. This week, we also plan to present fashion sales and various healing products to support compensatory psychology."
