[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Sung-yeol] Gil, a singer formerly of the hip-hop group Leessang, revealed his marriage and the birth of his son during his comeback broadcast after three years. The person Gil faced on the show was his mother-in-law.

On the afternoon of the 27th, Channel A's entertainment program 'Eye Contact' featured Gil and his mother-in-law. Gil's mother-in-law explained that her daughter had been missing for three years because of her son-in-law, which was the reason for appearing on the show.

Gil said, "First of all, I think I need to apologize. To those who loved me and my music, I caused a great disappointment... I am very sorry," expressing his apology.

He explained the situation at the time, saying, "I hated myself just for existing like this. I thought, 'How can I repay with music? That's nonsense,' so I put away all my instruments."

He continued, "We had a commitment ceremony three years ago, and two years ago, we had a son," revealing, "Not many people around me even know about the marriage."

At that time, Gil's side denied the claims, saying, "It's completely unfounded. There's no basis for the story."

Revealing facts that even MCs Kang Ho-dong and Lee Sang-min did not know, he said, "I missed the timing. At that time, I thought meeting someone was a wrong thing. I had cut off contact with friends around me, so no one knew."

Gil's mother-in-law expressed her disappointment, saying, "I was really hurt back then. It would have been so much better if they had admitted it when the article came out. Even my own mother didn't know."

Gil said, "I wanted to express my apologies to my mother-in-law," and she responded in an interview, "It was very hard for three years."

Later, in the space where the two met and made eye contact, Gil's mother-in-law said, "I have just one question. When the marriage article came out, it was denied as unfounded. Why didn't you reveal the truth then? I was really hurt."

Gil's mother-in-law shared her true feelings with Gil, saying, "If you had admitted it, things might have gone more smoothly. Our daughter had dreams and things she wanted to do, but she had to hide. I didn't raise my daughter to live like that."

Gil replied, "I was very afraid. When the marriage was revealed, I thought I should bear the bad reactions, but I was worried my wife and mother-in-law would get hurt."

He added, "We made the decision without considering my mother-in-law's feelings."

Gil also told his mother-in-law, "I heard that my wife once told you she wanted to break up before the marriage registration."

His mother-in-law explained the situation at the time, saying, "You were on the edge of a cliff then. So I told her, 'You don't push someone standing on the edge of a cliff.' I thought there is a right time to break up, and that wasn't it."

She continued, "Have the wedding. Start with the wedding," and said, "Then it will be fine."

Gil responded, "That's the part I feel most sorry about toward my wife," and his mother-in-law said, "If you have the ceremony, I can accept you. I even picked a date. April 11. I went to the temple and picked the date."

Hearing about the wedding, Gil was momentarily taken aback but then took out an envelope. He said, "I also picked a date," revealing the date set for May.

His mother-in-law said, "May is also very good, but since the topic came up, let's just do it in April. The sooner, the better. Have the wedding in April, and since Children's Day is in May, go out proudly with your son."

Regarding the wedding, Gil said, "Can I have a wedding while being blessed? I want to have a small ceremony with just family," and his mother-in-law replied, "I don't like small weddings."

She insisted, "If even the wedding is small, it feels like you're hiding it. It doesn't have to be grand, but greet the elders in the neighborhood and have it at the community center."

At the end, Gil crossed the barrier to where his mother-in-law was, but she turned away.

In an interview with the production team, his mother-in-law said, "It hurt my heart to leave him standing alone. Seeing him sitting like a sinner was pitiful. Still, I thought that only by having a wedding could I formally accept him as my son-in-law."

Gil vowed, "Not as the celebrity Gil, but as the person Gil Sung-jun, as your son-in-law, I will do my best to live."

Meanwhile, Gil was fined in 2004 for a summary indictment on drunk driving charges. Later, in April 2014, he was caught drunk driving near Hapjeong Station in Seoul while intoxicated, resulting in license cancellation.

He made a comeback through Mnet's 'Show Me the Money 5' in 2016, but in June 2017, he was caught drunk driving again after parking his car at the entrance of Namsan 3 Tunnel in Seoul and falling asleep.
