K-water Collaborates to Strengthen Global Competence... "Actively Responding to the New Southern Policy"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Korea Water Resources Corporation will hold the "1st Global Cooperation Work Sharing Meeting" on the 28th at its headquarters in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, with about 50 domestic and overseas resident executives and employees in charge of water-related global cooperation work and local special purpose corporation officials.

Global cooperation work refers to various cooperative tasks related to construction projects such as dams and water supply overseas, as well as official development assistance by the government. The Water Resources Corporation is currently carrying out 15 water-related projects in 11 countries including the Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Georgia, and Pakistan.

This meeting, under the theme of "Sharing and Seeking," will share the progress of projects such as the Georgia Nenskra Hydroelectric Power Dam construction project and discuss ways to discover high-quality projects, crisis management, and strengthening professional capabilities.

The Georgia Nenskra Hydroelectric Power Dam construction project, which started construction this year and aims for completion in 2025, is a $1 billion project being promoted near the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia.

At the meeting, information will be shared regarding professional knowledge and experience, risk factors, and political and cultural differences among departments in charge of global cooperation work, and efforts will be made to strengthen organic cooperation between headquarters and field sites and to seek joint crisis response measures.

The Water Resources Corporation plans to regularize this meeting to strengthen cooperation and communication, establish systematic information sharing and crisis response measures, and enhance efficiency and sustainability across the entire field of global cooperation work.

Lee Hak-soo, president of the Water Resources Corporation, said, "We will build a flexible and productive work system through communication and cooperation that transcends geographical limitations between sites," adding, "We will also do our best to actively respond to government policies such as the New Southern Policy and contribute to job creation."

Meanwhile, since starting the Fenhe River Basin survey project in China in 1994, the corporation has completed a total of 85 projects in 31 countries, 39 of which were carried out jointly with domestic companies.

In addition, small and medium-sized enterprises that participated in five projects conducted in Vietnam and the Philippines have shown results in supporting the overseas joint advancement of domestic companies by winning new projects locally.
