[Asia Economy Reporter Osangdo] At around 7:46 PM on the 25th, an accident presumed to be caused by a gas explosion occurred at a pension in Mukhaejindong, Donghae-si, Gangwon-do, resulting in 9 casualties. Four people died, and three others suffered full-body burns and were transported to a nearby specialized burn hospital.
According to the Fire Department, the fire is believed to have started in a two-story pension with 8 rooms. Seven people staying in the room where the explosion occurred either died or were seriously injured. Two people in the adjacent room inhaled smoke and were taken to a nearby hospital. The accident site is a mixed-use building with a raw fish restaurant on the first floor and a pension on the second floor.
The fire authorities stated, "The three seriously injured individuals have severe full-body burns and are in critical condition."
The accident reportedly happened while seven pension guests were grilling meat using a large burner. The fire department and police are investigating the exact cause of the accident based on witness statements.
The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department, which responded to the report. The fire department dispatched the first unit within 4 minutes of the fire outbreak and completely extinguished the fire by around 8:09 PM.
