[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As the Ministry of Justice carried out a personnel reshuffle replacing all deputy prosecutors investigating matters related to the Blue House, opposition parties raised their voices in unison to criticize the move.
Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, described this prosecution reshuffle as 'crippling the prosecution and obstructing justice' and announced plans to push for a special prosecutor. On the morning of the 24th, during a luncheon meeting at the National Assembly, he stated, "With the regime's crippling of the prosecution and obstruction of justice reaching its peak, we can no longer refrain from discussing a special prosecutor."
Hwang said, "Until now, our Liberty Korea Party has refrained from discussing a special prosecutor out of respect for the prosecution's investigation, but even within the prosecution, talk of a special prosecutor has emerged. The Liberty Korea Party will use a special prosecutor to stop this reckless regime's privatization of power."
He added, "The Moon administration is committing an utterly unacceptable anti-democratic outrage. To neutralize investigations into the regime's key figures' corruption and misconduct, it is destroying the prosecution organization itself. From personnel changes at the level of chief prosecutors to the passage of prosecution system reform plans at the Cabinet meeting, and down to deputy prosecutor appointments, everything is aimed at creating a 'puppet prosecution,'" he said.
Regarding the prosecution personnel changes, Hwang sharply criticized President Moon Jae-in. He said, "This prosecution massacre cannot be said to have happened by chance. All these personnel decisions rest with the president. I hope the president will clarify to the public whether he was aware of this or not."
He also asked for support for the Liberty Korea Party in the upcoming April 15 general election. Hwang said, "The day will surely come when the independence and neutrality of the prosecution are restored. We will reclaim the day when our prosecution is returned to the people. Please grant our Liberty Korea Party the opportunity to set the country right again in this election. Let us achieve a landslide victory so we can stop the Moon administration's tyranny."

Lee Jong-cheol, spokesperson for the New Conservative Party, also commented, saying, "Despite even progressive-leaning judges warning that the January 8 first prosecution massacre was 'in direct violation of the spirit of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea,' the reckless regime has carried out a 'second prosecution massacre.' The Minister of Justice is merely a figurehead; the people fully perceive that this is entirely under President Moon's directive," he criticized.
He said, "This is blatant obstruction of justice and a clear abuse of power. It is an act that directly contradicts popular sovereignty and the rule of law, which demand that the power entrusted by the people be used solely for public purposes and in accordance with the law. The people support Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl and prosecutors who do not submit," he stated.
