Why Has Gwanak-gu Significantly Increased Its Education Budget?

Active Efforts to Improve Educational Environments in Kindergartens, Schools, and Other Facilities... Contributing to Reducing Educational Gaps and Revitalizing Public Education through Quality Education Support

Why Has Gwanak-gu Significantly Increased Its Education Budget?

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has taken active steps to improve the educational environment of educational facilities such as kindergartens and schools in the region.

The district announced that following last year's doubling of the 'education expense subsidy,' it has secured 4 billion KRW this year, an increase of 1 billion KRW.

This year's education expense subsidy will support various areas including ▲application projects reflecting each school's demands such as academic achievement improvement, special aptitude, and after-school programs ▲specialized program contest projects to revitalize general high schools ▲future creative classroom construction projects ▲facility and environment improvement projects ▲projects to activate local resident participation through the opening and utilization of school facility resources.

In particular, to ensure efficient subsidy allocation, on the 7th, the district held an 'Education Expense Subsidy Briefing Session' attended by about 100 people including parents, school officials, and students to promote district education policies and gather opinions from parents and students.

Additionally, the district has raised the support standard amounts for each school level, improved educational conditions in the region, and conducted satisfaction surveys on student programs to operate the increased education expense subsidy effectively.

The education expense subsidy will be paid in March after reviewing each school's project content and necessity within the support standard at the 'Education Expense Deliberation Committee' meeting on the 30th, based on applications from each school.

From this year, the district is providing eco-friendly free meals to 2nd and 3rd-year high school students, with plans to expand the benefit to all grades next year.

Furthermore, plans are underway to establish and operate an after-school education support center for children and youth. Through building village education infrastructure, the district is striving to support systematic and professional after-school educational activities and make Gwanak-gu a great place for education.

Mayor Park Junhee stated, “It is no exaggeration to say that the driving force behind Gwanak-gu's growth lies in the education of our children, who are our future,” and added, “We will contribute to closing the education gap and revitalizing public education through quality educational support such as improving academic achievement and educational conditions for each school.”
