[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, expressed his gratitude to about 400 tongjang and ijang (community leaders) in the province who have been protecting and discovering children in crisis this year, saying that "discovering children in crisis is a task only God can do."
On the 22nd, Governor Lee attended the 'Tongrijang Talk Concert for Protecting Children in Crisis with Movies' held at the Gyeonggi Institute of Economic Science and Technology in Gwanggyo Techno Valley, Yeongtong, Suwon, and praised the efforts of tongjang and ijang who have discovered and protected children in crisis in their communities, saying, "Discovering children in crisis is a life-saving task."
This event, held for tongjang and ijang in the Gyeonggi area to watch a movie related to children in crisis together and share the importance of protecting children in crisis and cases of discovery, proceeded in the order of introducing the project for discovering and protecting children in crisis, awarding tongjang and ijang who contributed to discovering children in crisis, and screening the movie "Find Me" (directed by Kim Seung-woo, starring Lee Young-ae, 2019).
At the event, Governor Lee said, "We often come across news about child abuse, and sometimes people do not realize how important it is to raise a child after giving birth," adding, "In particular, there are occasional cases where children are neglected to the point of abandonment due to economic circumstances."
He continued, "Last year, when we conducted a survey on children in crisis through tongjang and ijang, surprisingly, several achievements were made," explaining, "A significant number of children in crisis were given opportunities to escape danger and live in a safe environment."
Governor Lee added, "If through these efforts, 10 or 20 children in crisis can be discovered and protected, it is a matter of saving someone's life and a task that only God can do," and said, "On behalf of the 13.5 million residents of the province, I sincerely thank you. Please continue to work with pride and responsibility."
Last year, the province collaborated with tongjang and ijang to promote the project 'Asking About the Well-being of Children,' achieving the result of linking 73 children in crisis situations with emergency welfare services.
