[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Sung Yun-mo, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, plans to visit Sejong Traditional Market in Jochiwon-eup, Sejong Special Self-Governing City at 3 p.m. on the 23rd, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, to check holiday prices and encourage market merchants.
Minister Sung will greet the merchants with New Year's greetings while purchasing goods using Onnuri gift certificates together with representatives from the Market Merchants Association, Daejeon Chungnam Regional Small and Medium Venture Business Administration, and Sejong Special Self-Governing City Hall.
He will visit stores damaged by the fire at Sejong Traditional Market at the end of last year to comfort the merchants.
He will announce plans to strengthen electrical and gas safety inspections to prevent fires in traditional markets and shopping districts.
Earlier, around 9 a.m. on December 29 last year, a fire presumed to be caused by an electrical short circuit occurred at a store near Sejong Traditional Market, destroying eight stores.
Minister Sung will then visit 'Pyeongan-ui Jip,' a senior welfare facility in Yeondong-myeon, Sejong City, to encourage the elderly and staff. He will deliver holiday supplies such as meat and fruit purchased from the traditional market, along with consolation money.
