Trump: "WTO Director-General to Visit Washington Soon" Reform Plan Discussions Expected

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 22nd (local time) that Roberto Azev?do, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), will soon visit Washington, according to major foreign media reports.

Attending the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland, President Trump held a press conference just before returning home and made this announcement. Director-General Azev?do also stated that he will meet with President Trump in the near future to discuss necessary changes to the WTO.

The United States has expressed dissatisfaction with the WTO's Appellate Body, which functions as a 'Supreme Court,' and has boycotted the appointment of appellate judges. As a result, the Appellate Body has been paralyzed since December of last year due to a lack of the required number of appellate judges.
