[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The online video service (OTT) 'Wavve' is strengthening its content competitiveness by exclusively releasing popular overseas dramas in Korea.
On the 22nd, Wavve announced that through contracts with major overseas studios such as NBCUniversal and CBS, it will sequentially release popular dramas and dramas scheduled to air this year via its subscription service.
First, on the 23rd, just before the Lunar New Year holiday, CBS's 'FBI' will be released in Korea for the first time. The crime investigation drama 'FBI' was produced by Dick Wolf, the executive producer of the 'Chicago PD' series, and attracted 13 million viewers on CBS last year, achieving the highest ratings.
Starting next month, Wavve will release a large number of popular series from NBCUniversal, including CBS's 'SEAL TEAM,' which depicts the story of the U.S. Navy special forces.
The NBCUniversal works released by Wavve include over 200 titles such as 'BLUFF CITY LAW,' 'THE CAPTURE,' 'BELGRAVIA,' 'RESIDENT ALIEN,' and 'BULLETPROOF.' Warner Bros.' 'Manifest,' which received favorable reviews on Wavve last year, will also be exclusively released with Season 2 currently airing in the U.S. following Season 1.
Wavve subscription users can watch not only domestic broadcasts but also movies and American and Chinese dramas without additional fees. Kim Hong-gi, head of the Content Wavve Business Planning Group, explained, "Last year, we significantly enhanced our subscription offerings with movies and American dramas, which received positive user responses. This year, we plan to further expand investments and greatly increase the number of series that can only be seen on Wavve."
