[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The police have launched an internal investigation into Yoo Hee-seok, the director of Ajou University Medical Center, who was accused of insult and other charges by a civic group for verbally abusing Professor Lee Guk-jong, head of the Gyeonggi Southern Trauma Center at Ajou University Hospital.
On the 21st, the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency announced that it had received the case from the National Police Agency, which was reported by the civic group, the Committee for the Protection of the Common People's Livelihood, and plans to begin an internal investigation.
The National Police Agency decided to entrust the investigation of the case to the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency, which has jurisdiction over Suwon, where Ajou University Hospital is located, and is currently transferring related documents such as the complaint. The internal investigation is expected to proceed immediately after the transfer is completed.
Previously, the Committee for the Protection of the Common People's Livelihood had filed a complaint against Director Yoo on charges including obstruction of business, neglect of duty, and insult.
In the complaint, the group claimed, "Director Yoo obstructed the normal operations of the trauma center run by Professor Lee Guk-jong by not assigning hospital rooms, among other methods, and insulted the professor by verbally abusing him in front of hospital staff, saying things like 'Because of you, the hospital is going to collapse.'"
