Gwangju University Freezes Tuition Fees for 11th Consecutive Year

On the 21st, Gwangju University announced that the Tuition Review Committee for the 2020 academic year decided to freeze tuition fees considering the financial burden on students and parents as well as the economic downturn.

Along with this, the university plans to actively support minimizing the educational expenses burden by providing various scholarship benefits so that students can focus solely on their studies.

In particular, full admission fee scholarships will be awarded to first-time successful applicants, and based on CSAT scores, academic encouragement scholarships will be provided ranging from full tuition for up to four years to 25% of the tuition for the admission semester. Additionally, benefits such as overseas training and dormitory fee support will also be offered.

Moreover, students can receive benefits from over 50 types of scholarship and welfare programs, including the Hosinmaewon Special Scholarship, Science and Engineering Talent Scholarship, Gukgi Special Scholarship, CSAT (early admission) merit scholarships, language excellence scholarships, special scholarships for culture, sports, and arts, scholarships for students with disabilities, welfare scholarships, foreign student scholarships, multicultural family scholarships, and ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) scholarships.

According to the 2018 information disclosure, Gwangju University's average scholarship amount per enrolled student is 4.02 million KRW, ranking 3rd in the Honam region and 1st in the Gwangju area among private universities with over 5,000 students.

The tuition payment period for new students is from the 5th to the 7th of next month, and tuition bills can be checked on the university's website.

Gwangju University plans to minimize the tuition burden on students and parents while overcoming financial challenges by implementing a mid- to long-term financial soundness plan, including budget cuts, revenue increases, and actively attracting government financial support projects (national funding projects).
