Jeonbuk Province Selected for Regional Customized Disaster Safety Research and Development Contest

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 21st that the project titled "Development of Intelligent Traffic Safety System Demonstration Technology for Elderly Pedestrians and Road Traffic Safety" was selected in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 2020 Regional Customized Disaster Safety Problem-Solving Support Research and Development Project contest.

The 2020 Regional Customized Disaster Safety Problem-Solving Research and Development Project selected this time includes ▲development of an intelligent lighting camera system for pedestrian safety ▲development of an electronic display board for crosswalk situation guidance ▲automatic snow removal and management system for traffic lights and road boundary stones.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety held the first contest for the "2020 Regional Customized Disaster Safety Problem-Solving Support Research and Development Project" last September, and as a result, out of 30 projects proposed by 17 cities and provinces nationwide, 10 projects were recently finalized after comprehensively considering problem-solving feasibility and performance utilization.

Jeonbuk Province analyzed that it was highly evaluated for presenting problem-solving feasibility for pedestrian traffic accident prevention, a social issue not limited to a specific area, and for its excellent applicability.

This project is expected to invest a total project cost of 2.06 billion KRW over three years (1.65 billion KRW national funds, 410 million KRW local funds) through demonstration and supplementation of the intelligent traffic safety system for road traffic.

The province plans to select research institutions to carry out the research and development project by the end of March for the 410 million KRW budget this year and to start full-scale research in April. To successfully promote detailed contest projects, local industry-academia and research institutions will participate to contribute to the development of Jeollabuk-do's disaster safety industry.

Kang Seung-gu, Director of the Provincial Safety Office, said, "We will not be satisfied with solving pedestrian safety prevention problems in crosswalks and accident-prone areas selected this time, but will do our best to ensure residents can live safely through continuous project discovery to solve regional disaster safety issues."
