[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi Province received the Prime Minister's Institutional Commendation at the '2019 Women-Friendly City Government Awards Ceremony' hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, held on the 20th at Post Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul.

Designated as a women-friendly city in 2015, Bucheon-si has promoted various policies and projects to strengthen the foundation of gender equality and create a city where the lives of women and other socially vulnerable groups are convenient and safe.

As a representative women-friendly project, the city developed and operated a working mom housekeeping support service, which became a benchmarking target for other local governments. It has also implemented projects such as creating safe return-home paths for women, installing secure unmanned parcel lockers, work-rest support programs, and career interruption prevention projects.

Additionally, by forming a women-friendly city creation council and a citizen participation group to activate public-private governance, Bucheon achieved the remarkable feat of receiving the Prime Minister's Institutional Commendation in the fourth year since its designation as a women-friendly city.

This year, the city plans to promote various women-friendly projects, including the creation of a healing space for female emotional laborers, aiming to achieve re-designation as a second-term women-friendly city.

Mayor Jang Deokcheon said, "I am pleased that our efforts to create a women-friendly city have been recognized," and added, "We will continue to work harder to make Bucheon a women-friendly city based on active citizen participation and cooperation among departments."
