[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Gas Corporation announced on the 21st that CEO Chae Hee-bong attended the 3rd Hydrogen Council CEO Annual Meeting held in Paris, France on the 20th (local time).

The CEO meeting attended by CEO Chae is the annual flagship event of the Hydrogen Council. According to the Gas Corporation, CEO Chae exchanged various opinions with leaders of global companies regarding business cooperation in energy transportation and finance sectors, as well as strategies to realize the hydrogen economy.

In particular, at the meeting, the Hydrogen Council announced a hydrogen cost roadmap analysis report titled "Path to Hydrogen Competitiveness: A Cost Perspective," prepared by the global consulting firm McKinsey.

The report forecasts that as the scale of hydrogen production, transportation, and product manufacturing gradually increases, the cost of most hydrogen-utilizing devices will decrease by up to 50% by 2030, thereby strengthening price competitiveness.

CEO Chae stated, "Recently, major countries accounting for 70% of the world's gross domestic product (GDP) have designated hydrogen as a core item in their energy transition plans and are increasing their deployment targets. Going forward, we will actively respond to government policies to revitalize the hydrogen economy and focus our capabilities on developing the hydrogen industry to lead the future energy era."

The Hydrogen Council was launched in January 2017 at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland. It aims to realize large-scale commercialization of the global hydrogen industry and promote investment and related policy support in the hydrogen and fuel cell sectors.

At its inception, the council had 13 member companies, but now the number has rapidly increased to 81. Major global energy companies such as Shell, TOTAL, and Aramco are also participating.
