The Story of Eunpyeong-gu Smart City Integrated Control Center Helping a Suicide Attempt Survivor...

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) Smart City Integrated Control Center announced that it contributed to rescuing a suicide attempter (77-year-old male) in Daejo-dong through the rapid video tracking by the surveillance CCTV control personnel.

At around 4:30 a.m. on the 14th, a suicide suspicion report was received at the police station's 112 situation room.

Accordingly, the control center monitoring personnel tracked the area around the report location and the movement path for about 30 minutes in real time, and at around 5 a.m., they captured the suicide suspect climbing Mt. Aengbong and promptly relayed the information to the police officers dispatched to the scene.

Receiving the real-time movement path of the suicide suspect from the control center, the police officers searching around Mt. Aengbong found the individual attempting suicide by hanging a nylon string around his neck about 500 meters off the hiking trail in the forest at around 6:20 a.m., and safely rescued him together with the 119 rescue team.

The monitoring personnel, trained through numerous real-time incident responses, persistently tracked all movement paths from the suicide attempter’s home and were able to quickly relay the real-time route to the police officers on site, contributing to saving a precious life by transporting the individual to the hospital.

The Eunpyeong-gu Control Center has been cooperating to increase the police’s incident resolution and suspect arrest rates by recording a high number of incident responses annually (4,016 cases in 2018, 4,139 cases in 2019).

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “The ultimate purpose of establishing the Eunpyeong-gu Smart City Integrated Control Center is for the safety of the residents, and we will do our best to create a safe Eunpyeong through continuous CCTV installation and uninterrupted monitoring with real-time response.”
