[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Jo Ju-yeon, who has led McDonald's Korea for four years, is resigning.

According to McDonald's Korea on the 21st, Jo recently announced her intention to resign to employees via an internal email.

A McDonald's Korea official stated, "We understand that Jo is resigning for personal reasons. There are no company-related reasons."

The resignation is known to be due to personal circumstances, and she will continue her duties until next month. A successor has not yet been decided.

Jo, who took office in 2016, shared her New Year's plan in a speech on the 6th, saying, "In 2020, we aim to be more focused on customers and show a better McDonald's, a new McDonald's." Therefore, some view this resignation decision as sudden.

Regarding this, a McDonald's Korea official added, "Although it is regrettable, we have decided to respect her personal decision," and "We will soon look for a successor."

Last year, McDonald's Korea faced controversy after revelations of unsanitary manufacturing practices at some outlets. This led to renewed attention on the past 'Hamburger Disease controversy,' causing significant difficulties for the company.
