Providing Job Competency Enhancement Opportunities and Jobs Simultaneously to 40 Unemployed Youth... Employment Support for 20 in IoT and Big Data, 10 in Broadcasting Planning, and 10 in Design Fields
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced the 2020 Mapo-type Youth Job Project plan, which simultaneously provides job competency enhancement opportunities and employment for unemployed youth.
This is the second project of the Mapo-type Youth Job Project, which took its first step last year with the Mapo-type Typeface Development Project, where most of the participating youth succeeded in finding employment in related industries.
The 2020 Mapo-type Youth Job Project will be promoted targeting young people who wish to work in related industries based on the IT, broadcasting, and design sectors developed mainly around Digital Media City (DMC) in Sangam-dong and the Hongdae area.
The district provides youth with opportunities to enhance job competencies in their areas of interest and jobs to carry out tasks applied to district administration, and supports them to ultimately find employment in related industries.
The recruitment fields and number of people are 20 in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data fields, 10 in broadcasting planning, and 10 in design.
The working period is from April 13 to November 30, with a daily 5-hour work schedule (5 days a week) and a wage of approximately 52,650 KRW per day. (Includes enrollment in the four major social insurances, weekly paid holidays, paid annual leave, and condolence leave)
Applicants must be Seoul citizens aged between 18 and 39 as of the announcement date, majoring in related fields (graduates of relevant education), holders of certificates, or those with practical experience.
The application period is from February 3 to 7.
The district plans to recruit unemployed youth to participate in the project by February and start full-scale job training from March.
At the same time, management personnel for smooth project operation will also be selected. Applications for one general manager and three field managers (one for Big Data and IoT, one for broadcasting planning, and one for design and art) will be accepted from January 28 to 31, with hiring planned in February.
Currently, the district has prepared office space necessary for youth education and tasks in the old district office building to promote the project.
The budget includes 765 million KRW from the district, 330 million KRW from Seoul city, and an additional 80 million KRW incentive obtained by winning the Excellent Award at last year’s National Local Government Job Awards.
Last year’s first attempt under the Mapo-type Youth Job Project, the ‘Mapo-type Typeface Development Project,’ provided monthly salaries of 1.9 to 2 million KRW to unemployed youth majoring in design and computer fields, carrying out the task of developing a total of nine Mapo-type typefaces.
The ‘Mapo Typeface,’ developed by nine youths each creating one typeface, produced seven award winners at the ‘27th Hangeul Font Design Contest’ hosted by the Sejong the Great Memorial Association, and most of the youth succeeded in finding employment or starting businesses in related industries.
Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “In November last year, we signed a related business agreement with the Seoul Western Employment and Labor Office for the efficient promotion of the Mapo-type Youth Job Project. We will provide maximum support to revitalize the passion and spirit of challenge among youth and achieve results that lead to actual employment through systematic and effective project implementation.”
