[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) on the 20th presented the Medal of Honor and the Hwarang Military Merit Medal on behalf of the Minister of National Defense to Jeon Han-jo, the son of the late Private Jeon Se-chun, a Korean War veteran, in the mayor's office.
The late Jeon Se-chun, the recipient of the Hwarang Military Merit Medal, enlisted in the Army 3rd Division in August 1951 and made significant contributions in the Geumhwaji District battle. Although he was selected for the award, he did not receive the medal at the time due to the chaotic conditions on the battlefield.
Since July last year, the Ministry of National Defense has been actively identifying veterans or their families who made contributions during the war but did not actually receive medals, and is promoting the '6.25 Military Merit Medal Retrieval Project' to deliver these medals.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, "The freedom and peace we enjoy today are thanks to the noble dedication of the patriotic heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country," and added, "We will strive to honor and respect the veterans who devoted themselves to protecting the nation."
