[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] Child actress Gu Sa-rang (9) has been embroiled in an animal abuse controversy, and Gu Sa-rang's agency stated, "The child is deeply hurt and defenseless, which is worrisome."

Gu Sa-rang's agency, J&K Entertainment, said in an interview with Maeil Business Star Today on the 20th, "Harsh expressions and excessive criticism are being directed at a young child."

The agency expressed concern, saying, "She is reflecting on her reckless behavior, and her parents, especially her mother, are very heartbroken. However, the video that has spread was maliciously edited, and the reactions to it are excessive."

They continued, "Her mother has posted an apology and is doing her best, but the uncontrollable public opinion, the issues spreading without verification, and sensational reporting are overwhelming. We sincerely hope this ends with healthy criticism that does not cross the line."

Earlier, on the 16th, Gu Sa-rang posted a video on her YouTube channel showing her opening a gift she received from BTS member Jimin.

According to the released video, Gu Sa-rang pushed away the face of her pet cat approaching the box with her hand. She also lifted the cat trying to enter the box and placed it on the floor, and told the cat, "Don't touch."

Netizens criticized the scene, saying, "Isn't this animal abuse?"

As the controversy spread, Gu Sa-rang's mother posted an apology, saying, "It seems this situation happened because we were lacking," and "At the time of filming, Sa-rang was a bit happy and in a good mood, but she showed expressions and wrong behavior different from usual, for which we are very sorry."

She added, "Sa-rang is also reflecting while crying a lot. We apologize again."
