[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 20th that to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Uprising this year, it will hold the "120 Years of People's Uprising in Korea Exhibition" from May 1 to June 14 at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center and the May 18 Freedom Park area, reenacting major events of the people's uprisings and the period of May 1980.
Accordingly, the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center, the organizer of the exhibition, will publicly recruit bids for exhibition design and related services from today until the 31st.
At the exhibition held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center, visitors can explore the historical background, causes, progress, and impacts on later generations of major people's uprisings such as the Donghak Peasant Movement, the March 1st Movement, the Gwangju Student Independence Movement, the April 3 Incident, the April 19 Revolution, the Bu-Ma Uprising, the May 18 Democratic Uprising, the June People's Uprising, and the Candlelight Revolution through photos and videos.
In the May 18 Freedom Park area, the exhibition plans to recreate the scenes of human rights violations by state power in May 1980 using immersive content, providing an opportunity to build historical empathy across generations and regions.
Kim Yong-man, Director of the Democracy and Human Rights Division of the city, said, "It is meaningful to review the history of modern and contemporary people's uprisings, including the May 18 Democratic Uprising, in the city of democracy and human rights, Gwangju, all in one place," and added, "We hope this exhibition will be an opportunity for citizens as well as domestic and international participants to recognize and spread the significance and value of democracy."
