[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun called Ambassador Park Young-sik to Nepal on the afternoon of the 20th to receive a report on the search and rescue situation for the four missing South Korean nationals in Annapurna, Nepal. The Prime Minister's Office stated that he instructed, "The local embassy should cooperate more closely with the Nepalese government to ensure that search and rescue operations proceed more swiftly on site."
Prime Minister Chung expressed his sympathy for the families of the missing, who must be deeply worried as search and rescue efforts have been delayed due to unfavorable weather conditions.
He also urged, "Please provide the families of the missing with prompt and thorough explanations of the situation, and offer maximum support for necessary assistance such as local consular aid."
Earlier, four teachers affiliated with the Chungnam Office of Education went missing on the 17th after being caught in an avalanche along with two Nepalese guides while descending from the Annapurna Deurali area.
