[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 20th, President Moon Jae-in held his first weekly meeting with Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun to discuss government administration plans aimed at becoming a "government that empowers the people."


The Blue House explained, "Prime Minister Chung reported the future direction of government administration, focusing on making the 'government that empowers the people' the main point of national governance."


Prime Minister Chung reported on ▲ restoring economic vitality through groundbreaking regulatory innovation and creating a business-friendly environment (Economic Prime Minister) ▲ strengthening national unity by resolving social conflicts using a cooperative governance model and activating communication among the ruling party, government, and Blue House (Unifying Prime Minister) ▲ innovating the public service sector, including establishing a culture of proactive administration (Innovative Prime Minister).

Prime Minister Chung reported plans to operate a new cooperative governance model for resolving social conflicts called the "Thursday Dialogue" (tentative name), engaging in broad discussions with various sectors such as the business community, labor groups, and political circles.


President Moon urged Prime Minister Chung to consistently operate the "Thursday Dialogue" with strong commitment. President Moon expressed hope that the "Thursday Dialogue" could become a new model for cooperation and communication. Both President Moon and Prime Minister Chung agreed that regulatory innovation is paramount to revitalizing the economy. They also exchanged opinions on specific regulatory innovation measures.

Prime Minister Chung stated that this year, he plans to focus on resolving major issues in new industries such as big data, bio-health, and the sharing economy by mobilizing all available capabilities, including active conflict mediation and advancing the regulatory sandbox. He also emphasized that changes in the public service sector are essential for regulatory reform to yield results on the ground.


Meanwhile, President Moon requested efforts to ensure that the soon-to-be-opened Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry regulatory sandbox reception desk, related to the regulatory sandbox which marked its first anniversary on the 17th, helps enhance effectiveness and speed in resolving difficulties faced by the public and businesses.
