Former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon is entering the funeral hall of the late Honorary Chairman Shin Kyuk-ho, set up at Seoul Asan Medical Center on the afternoon of the 20th.
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] On the second day of the funeral for Lotte Group founder Honorary Chairman Shin Kyuk-ho on the 20th, a continuous line of mourners from various sectors visited the funeral hall set up at Seoul Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
At around 1:52 p.m. that day, former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon visited Honorary Chairman Shin's funeral hall.
After about ten minutes of condolence, former Prime Minister Lee said, "Although I had no personal connection, I met Lotte Chairman Shin Dong-bin several times," adding, "There was a period when the deceased's life and the Korean economy followed the same trajectory, rising from nothing to achieve high growth and miraculous accomplishments."
He continued, "He was one of the key figures who led Korea's rapid economic growth, and among those key figures, he lived the longest. Now that even that elder has passed away, I came to express my condolences."
Lee Jae-hyun, Chairman of CJ Group, visited the funeral hall set up at Asan Medical Center in Seoul on the afternoon of the 20th to pay his respects to the late Honorary Chairman Shin Kyuk-ho, and is leaving the funeral hall.
At the same time, CJ Group Chairman Lee Jae-hyun visited the funeral hall along with CJ Group Vice Chairman Park Geun-hee, CJ Corporation CEO Kim Hong-gi, CJ CheilJedang CEO Kang Shin-ho, and CJ ENM CEO Heo Min-hoi.
During the condolence visit, Chairman Lee reportedly said, "It is regrettable to lose a giant who greatly contributed to our country's economic growth and industrial development. I pray for the deceased's happiness in the afterlife."
From the morning, the funeral hall was continuously visited by political and business figures paying their respects.
At around 9:37 a.m., Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong was the first business leader to pay his respects, followed by Hyundai Department Store Chairman Chung Ji-sun, U.S. Ambassador to Korea Harry Harris, and SK Vice Chairman Choi Chang-won.
Honorary Chairman Shin Kyuk-ho passed away at 4:29 p.m. on the 18th at the age of 99. The funeral is being held as a group funeral to honor the founder of Lotte Group. The funeral procession is scheduled for 6 a.m. on the 22nd, and Honorary Chairman Shin will be laid to rest in his hometown at Seonyeong, Ulju-gun, Ulsan.
