[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will extend the opening hours of the Yeongsaeng Management Office by one hour during the Lunar New Year holiday period and will operate the Seongnam Crematorium for a shorter time.
On the 20th, Seongnam City announced that from the 24th to the 27th, the Haneulnuri 1st and 2nd Memorial Halls, which are enshrinement facilities within the Yeongsaeng Management Office (Seongnam Crematorium) in Galhyeon-dong, Jungwon-gu, will be open for one hour longer.
Accordingly, the usual opening hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be extended to 6 p.m. To reduce waiting times for mourners, the city will additionally install 33 temporary memorial altars outdoors in addition to the existing 17 memorial altars.
The city expects about 30,000 people (an average of 7,500 per day) to visit the Haneulnuri 1st and 2nd Memorial Halls, where 35,155 deceased are enshrined, during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The Yeongsaeng Management Office will also create an additional temporary parking lot with 30 spaces under the funeral hall, in addition to the existing parking lot with 300 spaces, and will deploy 16 personnel for parking management and cleaning.
Furthermore, on Lunar New Year's Day (the 25th), to reduce congestion, the city will operate only one cremation cycle at the Seongnam Crematorium.
