[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) held a launch ceremony on the 17th at the 12th-floor auditorium of Geumcheon-gu Office, marking the official start of the Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project.
On this day, 340 senior participants and workers involved in the Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project conducted by Cheongdam Comprehensive Social Welfare Center attended, received activity training, and reaffirmed their commitment to participating in the job project.
The district plans to sequentially hold launch ceremonies at six implementing institutions by the 31st for the ‘2020 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project,’ which involves a total of 3,014 seniors participating in 40 projects.
Starting with the launch ceremony at Cheongdam Comprehensive Social Welfare Center (4 projects, 340 people), a ceremony will be held on the 20th at the Geumcheon-gu branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association with 568 participants (3 projects).
Following that, ceremonies will be held on the 22nd at Geumcheon Senior Welfare Center (6 projects, 633 people), on the 29th at Geumcheon Hoam Senior Welfare Center (10 projects, 821 people), on the 30th at Geumcheon Nuri Comprehensive Social Welfare Center (4 projects, 154 people), and on the 31st at Geumcheon Senior Club (13 projects, 498 people).
The Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project is divided into public interest type, social service type, market type, and employment referral type projects. By job type, there are 26 ‘public interest type’ projects with 2,525 participants, including elementary school meal assistants and welfare facility caretakers; 2 ‘social service type’ projects with 91 participants supporting childcare and care facilities; 11 ‘market type’ projects with 375 participants such as Together Green Cafe; and 1 ‘employment referral type’ project with 23 participants dispatching seniors with relevant skills to demand sites.
The district supports various jobs and social activities so that seniors can lead active and healthy lives in their later years. In 2018, about 5.8 billion KRW was invested to provide jobs for 2,232 seniors, and last year, with a job budget of about 8.5 billion KRW, 2,823 seniors were supported. This year, with a budget of about 10 billion KRW, 3,014 seniors are participating in jobs, and efforts are being made to secure more budget and jobs.
Additionally, in June last year, the Geumcheon Senior Club, a dedicated institution for senior jobs, was established and operated to develop various senior-appropriate jobs that utilize seniors’ social experience and knowledge, creating conditions for their participation.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We will continue to work hard so that more seniors can participate in diverse and high-quality jobs to improve their quality of life and enhance senior welfare.”
