Participated as a Talent Donation Instructor from Hanyang University, Providing Small-Group Customized Education for Seniors and Local Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) Lifelong Learning Center’s Dokseodang Humanities Academy Center is conducting a ‘One-Point Smartphone Utilization Program’ for residents, including elderly people who are not proficient in using smartphones.
This program is carried out through a public-academic cooperation with volunteer talent donations from Hanyang University students. Instead of a lecture-style class for many students, it is a one-on-one customized education where one volunteer teaches 3 to 5 residents in a small group.
In particular, for elderly people, it is expected to be a good opportunity to comfortably and easily learn smartphone usage from university student volunteers, something they found difficult to ask their children for fear of being scolded.
Also, the program plans to enhance learning effectiveness by using the self-produced textbook ‘Smartphone Utilization Method,’ created last year together with Hanyang University volunteer students, in the education.
This program runs once a week in customized group time slots from January 13 to February 28. Volunteers will be continuously recruited in the future, and education will be conducted throughout the year as needed. In addition to student volunteer lectures, through a business agreement with PS&Marketing, a subsidiary of SK Telecom, quality smartphone utilization education will be steadily provided to residents.
Applications for education can be made anytime through the Seongdong-gu Lifelong Learning Center (Dokseodang Humanities Academy Center) website dokseodang.sd.go.kr.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Seongdong-gu has achieved the triple crown of education cities as a UNESCO Global Lifelong Learning City, a domestic lifelong learning city, and was re-designated as an Innovative Education Special Zone at the end of last year.” He added, “Furthermore, to befit Seongdong as a smart inclusive city, we will strive to ensure that all residents can enjoy smart technology without exclusion amid the changes of the new era.”
