Administrative Appeals Commission: "Ministry of Education's Transfer and Graduation Cancellation Decision is Justified"
Inha University Corporation Prepares Administrative Lawsuit Challenging Appeal Result
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] A civic group in Incheon has demanded the resignation of Cho Won-tae, chairman of Hanjin Group, who is under suspicion of fraudulent transfer and graduation at Inha University.
The Incheon Peace Welfare Solidarity stated in a press release on the 17th, "The recent decision by the Central Administrative Appeals Committee of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission confirmed that the Ministry of Education's order to cancel both Chairman Cho's transfer and graduation at Inha University is justified," adding, "Chairman Cho fraudulently transferred to Inha University in 1998 despite lacking transfer qualifications, and fraudulently graduated in 2003 despite insufficient credits, so the Ministry of Education's cancellation order and the Administrative Appeals Committee's decision are natural."
The Ministry of Education confirmed Chairman Cho's fraudulent transfer and graduation at Inha University and ordered the cancellation of both in 2018. However, Jeongseok Inha Academy, the school corporation of Inha University, filed an administrative appeal against the Ministry of Education in January last year, refusing to accept the decision.
The Incheon Peace Welfare Solidarity criticized, "Jeongseok Inha Academy does not accept the results of the administrative appeal and is preparing an administrative lawsuit, claiming that the Ministry of Education's corrective order is illegal and the appeal decision is unjust," adding, "Jeongseok Inha Academy, which ignores justice and fairness in an unreasonable manner, is unqualified as a school corporation."
The group pointed out, "Chairman Cho is currently engaged in a fierce family management dispute, so the cancellation of his Inha University graduation will be a major setback," and questioned, "Is Jeongseok Inha Academy trying to buy time with an administrative lawsuit, which seems to have a predictable outcome, until the Hanjin Group shareholders' meeting scheduled for March is over?"
The Incheon Peace Welfare Solidarity demanded, "Every time allegations of preferential treatment for children of the social elite surface, countless university students have called for fairness and justice, and Jeongseok Inha Academy must respond," urging them to stop the 'turning a blind eye' style administrative lawsuit.
They also urged, "Chairman Cho, whose academic fraud such as fraudulent transfer and graduation is clearly revealed, should deeply reflect on his immorality first," and called for him to "stop the shameful family feud and immediately resign as chairman of Hanjin Group and CEO of Korean Air, stepping down from the front lines of management."
