[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Liberty Korea Party has claimed "self-defense" in response to the flood of criticism over changing the name of its satellite party for proportional representation from "Proportional Liberty Korea Party" to "Future Korea Party" at the request of the National Election Commission.

Lee Chang-soo, spokesperson for the Korea Party, stated in a commentary on the 19th, "The parties of the '1+4 consultative body' have united in criticizing the name change to Future Korea Party. They must have been desperate, fearing their votes would drop," he said.

Earlier, the Alternative New Party filed a lawsuit requesting the dissolution of the party over the Proportional Liberty Korea Party Preparatory Committee's name change to the Future Korea Party Preparatory Committee, and both the Bareunmirae Party and the Party for Democracy and Peace also raised their voices in criticism.

In response, the Korea Party said, "This is self-defense against the baseless parliamentary violence of the 1+4 consultative body," adding, "The name change report is a procedural compliance following the National Election Commission's decision to disallow the name 'Proportional Liberty Korea Party.' We intend to abide by the law and the Commission's decision."

They further questioned, "Who destroyed democracy? Is it the Future Korea Party, which is complying with the law and entering the party formation process according to the National Election Commission's decision, or those who distorted the will of the people and created an election law that the public does not need to know about?"

Lee, the spokesperson, criticized, "Who committed illegal acts? Is it the Future Korea Party, which seeks to prevent distortion of voters' intentions, or those who rammed through the election law, the rules of the game?" He added, "They remained silent even when Cho Kuk undermined the values of fairness and justice, and when the administration destroyed the rule of law and carried out a personnel massacre."

He emphasized, "There is only one reason: they think it has nothing to do with their votes. Yet, those same people raise their voices loudly against the formation of the Future Korea Party, which they think will harm them. They should devote even half the time they spend criticizing the Future Korea Party to criticizing this administration's reckless actions and atrocities."
