Delivery of 10,000 Petitions Demanding Resolution of Local Issues at Doksan Station Exit 2... Discussion on G-Valley Development Plans with About 10 Representatives Including Knowledge Industry Center Leaders... Demands for Additional Doksan Station Entrance and Bus Stop Relocation
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) held a meeting on the morning of the 16th at 10 a.m. in the small conference room of Geumcheon-gu Office to discuss urgent issues and development strategies for ‘G Valley (Seoul Digital Industrial Complex).’
The event was attended by about 10 people, including Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu and chairpersons and managers of knowledge industry centers around Doksan Station.
The attendees submitted a petition signed by 10,000 people on this day, which had been collected since November last year, demanding solutions to local issues around Exit 2 of Doksan Station.
The petition contains voices from the field urging solutions to traffic congestion around Doksan Station and problems arising from the increase in floating population in G Valley Complex 3.
Additionally, the attendees presented opinions on various issues around Doksan Station, such as expanding the station exit, relocating the taxi stand in front of Exit 2, moving the bus stop in front of Exit 1, and cracking down on street vendors, requesting Geumcheon-gu to work together to resolve these problems.
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon empathized with the traffic problems at Geumcheon G Valley Doksan Station, where many people work and which is adjacent to residential areas such as apartments. He explained key projects including road expansion projects such as the undergrounding of the Seobu Expressway and the construction of the Doosan-gil underpass, improvements to the traffic signal system to alleviate congestion in front of Doksan Station, and the complete removal of public roadside parking spaces in Complex 3.
Representatives of the knowledge industry centers attending the meeting said, “It was a valuable opportunity to hear the district office’s policy solutions to the urgent issues around Geumcheon G Valley Doksan Station and to clear up our questions,” and added, “We look forward to building a close cooperative system with the district office to solve the traffic problems at Geumcheon G Valley Doksan Station.”
G Valley, formerly known as ‘Guro Industrial Complex,’ was the nation’s first industrial complex and a symbolic place that led Korea’s exports and economy based on labor-intensive manufacturing such as textiles, clothing, and wigs. Currently, it has transformed into a cluster of manufacturing, IT, and knowledge-based industries including knowledge industry centers and outlets. Two-thirds of ‘G Valley,’ Complexes 2 and 3, are located in Geumcheon-gu, where about 8,100 companies and approximately 100,000 workers are employed.
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu stated, “As a key task for Geumcheon-gu to leap forward as a happy city, we will establish a cooperative system with the central government, Seoul city, Geumcheon-gu, and private organizations to resolve urgent issues in Geumcheon G Valley and discuss development strategies.”
