[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] How about taking children to the National Science Museum during the Lunar New Year holiday? The science museums have prepared various programs where children can easily learn the principles of science while experiencing various traditional games.


The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 19th that the permanent exhibition halls of five national science museums under its jurisdiction will be open free of charge during the Lunar New Year holiday period (January 24-27, closed on Lunar New Year's Day, the 25th). The government has been opening science museums free of charge since last Chuseok. During last year's Chuseok, 80,000 people visited.

Learning Science through Traditional Games

The science museums have prepared various programs that children will enjoy.


First, since it is the Lunar New Year holiday, traditional game events have been prepared. At the National Central, Gwacheon, Gwangju, and Busan Science Museums, events are prepared for the whole family to enjoy traditional games such as Yutnori, Tuho, and Chilgo while experiencing scientific principles. The National Daegu Science Museum will hold the 'Al·Sseul·Sin·Jeon* (Ultimate Weapon Archery)' event to explain the historical significance and hidden scientific principles of the bow, which was the ultimate weapon of our nation. In addition, science education programs and science shows are also prepared.

Special exhibitions overlapping with the holiday period are also worth noting.


The National Central Science Museum will hold a special exhibition titled 'Science Korea, Endless Challenge' that looks back on 50 years of science and technology in Korea. The National Gwacheon Science Museum will hold 'In Search of Galileo,' which recreates many of Galileo's observations and experiments, and the National Busan Science Museum will hold a special exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of lunar exploration titled 'Challenge to Space.' The National Gwangju Science Museum will offer free admission to the paid special exhibition 'Sports is Fun' for visitors wearing hanbok.


Gu Hyuk-chae, Director of the Future Talent Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "We hope that many citizens will visit the science museums with their families during this Lunar New Year holiday, experience and enjoy the scientific principles behind our traditional games, and get closer to science."
