Competition for the Grand Prize with Nikaido Fumi, Miyazawa Rie, and Others
Actress Shim Eun-kyung (26) is set to receive the Outstanding Actress Award at the Japan Academy for the film "The Journalist."
According to her agency Management AND on the 16th, Shim Eun-kyung was nominated as the Outstanding Actress Award winner at the 43rd Japan Academy Awards held on the 16th. She is also expected to win the Best Actress Award at the ceremony to be held on March 6 at the Tokyo Grand Prince Hotel. Established in 1978, the Japan Academy Awards announce the winners of the major category Outstanding Awards first, and on the day of the ceremony, the Best Award winner is announced from among the Outstanding Award recipients.
Shim Eun-kyung's competitors include Fumi Nikaido from "Fly Me to the Saitama," Mayu Matsuoka from "Listen to the Universe," Rie Miyazawa from "No Longer Human: Osamu Dazai and the Three Women," and Sayuri Yoshinaga from "How to Find the Best Life."
"The Journalist" won not only the Outstanding Actress Award but also Outstanding Film Award, Outstanding Director Award (Michihito Fujii), Outstanding Screenplay Award (Michihito Fujii and Isoko Mochizuki), and Outstanding Actor Award (Tori Matsuzaka). Additionally, it was nominated for the Best Award in each category. Winners are decided by a vote of all association members.
"The Journalist" is a work that criticizes the state and journalism through a political scandal involving the current Japanese administration. Shim Eun-kyung played the lead role of reporter Erika Yoshioka, performing in Japanese. Previously, Shim Eun-kyung won the Best New Actress Award at the Tama Cinema Forum for this film.
