From Comrades in Progress to Enemies?…Warren and Sanders Reveal Conflict by Calling Each Other 'Liars'

Conversation Revealed After CNN Broadcast Debate
Protests Claiming Opponent Called Them a 'Liar'

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] It was recently confirmed that Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders engaged in a verbal spat after the Democratic presidential primary TV debate. The two sides clashed over the electability of a female presidential candidate, even using the term "liar" to reveal the depth of their emotions.

On the 15th (local time), after the presidential primary TV debate ended, a scene was captured on screen showing Senator Warren approaching Senator Sanders. At that time, Senator Sanders extended his hand, but Senator Warren did not shake it and instead said something. The audio was turned off after the debate, so the conversation was not broadcast, but CNN later released the content of that conversation.

Senator Warren said to Senator Sanders, "I think you called me a liar on national television." When Senator Sanders asked, "What are you talking about?" Warren repeated, "I think you called me a liar on national television."

Senator Sanders responded, "Let's not do this here right now," adding, "If you want to debate, I will debate you." Warren replied, "Anytime is fine."

The argument between the two continued. Senator Sanders said, "You called me a liar," and added, "You called me that. Anyway, let's stop here."

The relationship between the two candidates had been a topic of discussion even before the debate. Recently, conversations they had in private, as two long-standing progressive figures in American politics, have come to light, sparking disputes over their authenticity.

According to CNN reports from insiders, in December 2018, the two discussed the 2020 presidential election. According to Senator Warren, at that time Senator Sanders said, "A woman cannot win the presidency."

On the other hand, Senator Sanders emphasized his political history advocating for women's political participation and rebutted, saying, "Warren's aides are lying about what happened back then."

Although the two sides, known to be close, made gestures to prevent further escalation, the emotional rift has not disappeared.
