System Added to Verify Actual Ownership of Devices
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] Socar announced on the 16th that it will introduce an authentication system allowing the use of Socar only with the user's own mobile phone through an app update.
The security procedures have been strengthened so that all processes from registration to service use are only possible through the user's own device. Socar added a system to verify the actual ownership of the device to the existing 'mobile phone identity verification' that checks the consistency of the mobile phone number's ownership. On iOS, device ownership is verified through the SMS MO (Message Oriented) authentication system, and on Android, a USIM (Universal Subscriber Identity Module) inquiry and authentication must be completed.
After this update, all Socar members, including existing subscribers, must complete identity verification according to the new authentication procedure to use the service. On iOS, users can receive authentication by entering personal information and then clicking 'Send Authentication Message,' while on Android, the information stored on the USIM is automatically entered, and only the authentication number needs to be confirmed.
Won Jong-pil, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Socar, said, "We will not only enhance convenience, the greatest strength of mobile-based services, but also strengthen security systems directly related to user safety." He added, "Despite these efforts, we will strengthen monitoring to prevent misuse cases and consider legal measures depending on the situation."
