Special Envoy Shinginam Dispatched to Guatemala Presidential Inauguration Ceremony

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Shin Gi-nam, Chairman of the Library Information Policy Committee, attended the inauguration ceremony of Alejandro Giammattei, President of Guatemala, held in Guatemala City on the 14th (local time) as a congratulatory special envoy from the Korean government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 15th.

Director Moon Yong-sik of the Korea Information Society Agency accompanied him to the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by congratulatory special envoy delegations from over 50 countries including Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, and Panama.

Special Envoy Shin separately met with President Giammattei and delivered a presidential letter congratulating President Moon Jae-in on his inauguration and expressing hope for the expansion of friendly cooperative relations between the two countries. He expressed gratitude for Guatemala's support of the Korean government's efforts toward the Korean Peninsula peace process and requested continued unwavering support in the future.

Special Envoy Shin also expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would be strengthened in various fields such as △infrastructure △agriculture △e-government △public security △healthcare, and requested the president's attention and support for the Korean compatriots who have contributed to Guatemala's economic and social development.

President Giammattei expressed gratitude for the attendance of the Korean president's congratulatory special envoy at the inauguration ceremony and responded that he hopes to deepen and expand bilateral relations in more diverse fields in the future. He particularly emphasized the importance of development cooperation projects through the Korea International Cooperation Agency [KOICA] and infrastructure cooperation through the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), expressing hope that cooperation in these areas between the two countries would be strengthened. He also evaluated the contributions of Korean compatriots and companies to Guatemala's economic and social development and expressed willingness to support the Korean community.

Meanwhile, on the 13th, Special Envoy Shin held a meeting inviting about 20 representatives of the Korean compatriot community in Guatemala to discuss their activities and difficulties and to encourage them.
