[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Lotte Mart announced on the 15th that it has partnered with the coffee specialty store 'Paul Bassett' to exclusively launch three types of capsule coffee.
The newly released 'Paul Bassett Specialty Capsule 3 Types' are characterized by using only specialty grade beans, which account for the top 7% of global coffee production. The capsules come in packs of 10 and consist of 'Signature Blend' and 'Single Origin' (Colombia and Ethiopia). They are compatible with Nespresso capsule coffee machines.
Meanwhile, the capsule coffee market has shown steady growth, expanding from 137.6 billion KRW in 2016 to 179.5 billion KRW last year. At Lotte Mart, capsule coffee showed a growth rate of 110.4% last year, maintaining steady popularity.
Capsule coffee is a product that allows even beginners to enjoy high-quality coffee by simply placing a standardized recipe capsule into a dedicated machine, without complicated procedures such as grinding beans or tamping (compressing ground coffee). Subsequently, the perception of 'brand coffee enjoyed at home' has expanded, and major coffee brands are rushing to enter the market.
Kwon Ji-hyun, Coffee MD (Merchandiser) at Lotte Mart, said, “Capsule coffee is characterized by the expertise of coffee brands and excellent accessibility to enjoy it anywhere,” adding, “We will continue to actively reflect consumer demands and strive to lead the capsule coffee market proactively in the future.”
