Changsin-dong 'Danji Story' Donates Prize Money from Urban Regeneration Video Contest

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] On the 14th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that 'Danji Story,' a preliminary social enterprise in Changsin-dong, the first urban regeneration project area, donated the prize money of 500,000 won won at the urban regeneration video contest to Good Neighbors.

The '2019 1st Seoul Urban Regeneration Dokkaebi (Secrets to Awakening the City) Film Festival Video Contest,' hosted by the Seoul Urban Regeneration Office, was promoted to realize the value of citizen-led urban regeneration. A total of 35 works were submitted, of which 14 were selected.

'Danji Story' submitted a work featuring the 'Picture Book Room' program activities where mothers and children in Changsin-dong create picture storybooks together, as part of the 'Our Village Level-Up Project' supported by a private foundation, along with scenes exploring Changsin-dong, winning the Encouragement Award. Currently, nine Changsin-dong picture books can be found at the Quarry Observatory, with publication scheduled for February.

The Changsin-Sungin area was removed from the New Town project in October 2013 due to resident opposition and was selected as the first urban regeneration project site in 2014. Since then, various attempts utilizing local resources have been made, including revitalizing the sewing industry, developing attractions reflecting regional characteristics, and activating the resident community.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government stated, "This donation is particularly meaningful as it involved gathering activities for regional revitalization, submitting them to the contest, and donating the prize money received."

The donation will be used for Good Neighbors' domestic child rights protection projects.

Meanwhile, on December 19 last year, the city held the award ceremony for the 2019 1st Seoul Urban Regeneration Dokkaebi Film Festival Video Contest. The 14 awarded works can be viewed on the Seoul Urban Regeneration Portal and the Seoul Urban Regeneration Office YouTube channel.
