[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] After being appointed as the next CEO of KT, President Koo Hyun-mo (pictured) met with reporters during his first official schedule and stated, "We will transform into an organization that can quickly and closely provide what customers want."

President Koo made these remarks on the 13th at the '2020 New Year's Meeting of Science and Technology and Information and Broadcasting Professionals' held at the Korea Science and Technology Center, hosted by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies and the Korea Information and Broadcasting Telecommunications Federation. President Koo said, "I understand that personnel appointments will be made this week," adding, "The keyword for the organizational restructuring will likely be customer-centric. Our organization will get closer to customers and provide what they want very quickly and agilely within our system."

When asked about his determination as the new CEO, he was reserved and replied, "I will arrange a meeting in February." The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is scheduled to be held in Barcelona, Spain, in February. According to industry sources, President Koo is expected to attend MWC20 and present KT's vision.

Also present at the event were the CEOs of the three major telecom companies, including Park Jung-ho, CEO of SK Telecom, and Ha Hyun-hoe, Vice Chairman of LG Uplus. Regarding the company name change, Park Jung-ho said, "We are thinking of holding a public contest," adding, "We will receive ideas from you all and plan to change it to a good name that will lead Korea's ICT well." Park also stated, "We will do our best to achieve AI super-collaboration among Korean companies."

LG Uplus Vice Chairman Ha Hyun-hoe attracted attention by entering the venue together with Song Goo-young, CEO of LG HelloVision, at the New Year's meeting. When asked about the synergy effect between LG Uplus and LG HelloVision, he said, "We will do our best." Ha also added that they will strengthen synergy with LG Hello and bring innovation to the media platform market.
