Park Juhyun: "The National Election Commission Should Not Recognize the Proportional Liberty Korea Party"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Jeong Dong-young, leader of the Democratic Peace Party, criticized the Proportional Liberty Korea Party on the 13th, saying, "It is deeply regrettable that since the new year, the direction of political reform is flowing not towards improvement but deterioration."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Jeong said, "Movements to completely distort the purpose of the mixed-member proportional representation system by forming parties like the Proportional Korea Party or some other proportional party are emerging prominently," adding, "I think it is time to launch a campaign to break these trick parties."
Jeong pointed out, "The political turmoil over the past two years for electoral reform was a huge movement to change the winner-takes-all two-party system into a multi-party system based on consensual democracy," and "It is deeply lamentable that established parties are trying to exploit this, starting with conservative parties."
Jeong stated, "The Korea Party, which constantly resisted and did not hesitate to engage in extreme struggles to derail the reform during the electoral reform process, is now leading the way to abuse the new system after it has been changed," and added, "We will seek joint action with civil society. We cannot cook porridge only to give it to the forces of deterioration."
Park Joo-hyun, Supreme Council member of the Democratic Peace Party, also said, "Today, the Election Commission is scheduled to make a decision regarding the establishment of the Proportional Liberty Korea Party," and added, "Just as illegal address changes or fake divorces are not legally recognized, this should not be recognized either."
