"'1konomi' Instead of '1in-gyeongje', How About It?"

Ministry of Culture and National Institute of Korean Language Propose Alternative Terms for Saemalmoim
'One-Point Meeting' Recommended as 'Single-Item Meeting'

"'1konomi' Instead of '1in-gyeongje', How About It?"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language announced on the 13th that they have selected easy Korean alternatives for recently frequently used terms such as '1conomy' and 'one-point meeting,' choosing '1-person economy' and 'single-item (focused) meeting,' respectively.

'1conomy' refers to the act of enjoying a solo lifestyle and engaging in consumption activities or a person who does so; it is a combination of the Korean word for one person, 'il-in,' and the English word 'economy.' A 'one-point meeting' is a short meeting held to propose or pass a specific agenda item and is widely used in the political field.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language hold a 'New Words Meeting' to promptly identify such terms that are not easy to understand and prepare alternative words so that the media can immediately grasp and easily comprehend them.

An official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "Together with the National Institute of the Korean Language, we plan to actively promote these terms refined into easy words so that the public will not be excluded from information due to difficult terms and that these words will be widely used."
