Secured 6.29 Billion Incentives... Recognized on the Global Stage Beyond Domestic Welfare and Culture
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced on the 12th that it secured a total of 6.3 billion KRW in incentives by achieving 104 awards in various external institution evaluations and contests in 2019.
It achieved results not only domestically but also in global competitions, securing the largest scale of achievements and incentives in history.
A notable point among Songpa-gu's awards last year was its performance in global competitions. At the 'Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards,' which evaluates excellent marketing achievements and promotional projects of global companies, Songpa-gu received two Gold Awards and one Silver Award in the fields of publication innovation and customer service technology innovation.
Also, the Hansung Baekje Cultural Festival, Songpa-gu's representative festival, was honored with awards for eight consecutive years (2012-2019) at the 'Pinnacle Awards,' known as the World Festival Olympics, recognizing its potential to grow into a global festival.
Domestically, Songpa-gu stood out in various external evaluations by field. In the 'Korea Local Government Competitiveness Index (KLCI) Evaluation,' which examines the competitiveness of 226 cities, counties, and districts nationwide based on official statistical data, Songpa-gu achieved 'No. 1 among Seoul's autonomous districts.'
Along with this, at the 'National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition,' Songpa-gu demonstrated its development capabilities by winning the Grand Prize in the energy decentralization field and the Excellence Award in the job and economy field.
Furthermore, Songpa-gu reaped the fruits of communication administration by winning the Grand Prize in the basic local government category for three consecutive years (2017-2019) at the 'Korea SNS Awards' and receiving the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the 'One-Stop Civil Service Window Evaluation.'
In particular, last year, achievements in the cultural field stood out. The Pungnap-dong earthen fortress area was selected as the first 'Seoul Central Urban Regeneration Area' among the three Gangnam districts. This secured a project budget of 20 billion KRW, creating an opportunity to restore the Pungnap-dong area to the Hansung Baekje era 2,000 years ago. At the Munjeong Culture 1 site in Wirye-dong, Songpa-gu succeeded in attracting a 70 billion KRW 'Seoul Metropolitan Library Branch' themed on performance and arts, and also attracted the 'Southeast Citizens' Hall' to Munjeong Culture Valley. Various contest projects such as the Living Culture Support Center creation support project and the library's 'Humanities on the Road' were selected, laying the foundation for growth as a culture-centered city.
The district also confirmed its status as a safe city by being the only one among 69 autonomous districts nationwide to receive first-class ratings in four categories in the 'Regional Safety Index Evaluation' and being selected as an 'Excellent Disaster Management Institution' for three consecutive years (2017-2019).
In addition, Songpa-gu made great efforts to improve residents' quality of life by securing insufficient resources in the environment and welfare fields, including winning the Minister of Environment Award in the 'Emission Source Environmental Management Status Evaluation,' being selected as an excellent district for low-carbon lifestyle practice campaigns, and being chosen for the Care SOS Center contest.
Mayor Park Seong-su of Songpa-gu stated, "There are limits to meeting various administrative demands with our own resources, so last year we focused on expanding external resources through various evaluations and contest projects." He added, "In 2020, we will continue to challenge various projects for the 680,000 residents and carry out proactive administration to create 'Songpa leading Seoul.'"
