Director Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite' to Be Adapted into an HBO Drama in the US

Director Bong Joon-ho's film Parasite is expected to be produced as a drama by the American network HBO. CJ ENM, which invested in and distributed Parasite, announced on the 10th, "Although the final contract has not yet been signed, we have virtually agreed to make it into a drama."

HBO is a U.S. premium cable channel known for producing dramas such as Game of Thrones and Chernobyl. The production will involve director Adam McKay, who directed the films The Big Short and Vice, along with director Bong Joon-ho and CJ ENM as executive producers. McKay praised Parasite after first seeing it, calling it "the greatest cinematic statement ever made about the worship of capitalism."

The remake proposal has been around since last year. In October of last year, Director Bong said, "There has been an inquiry from the U.S. about producing Parasite as a drama," adding, "It would be interesting to explore stories about each character that were not fully told." CJ ENM stated, "While Director Bong and McKay were discussing the drama production, HBO joined the project." Details such as who will direct and how many episodes there will be have not yet been decided.
