[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Ssangyong Construction, which is constructing the apartment for the Usan-dong regional housing association in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, received a commendation from Gwangju City for its quality, safety, and site management.
According to Gwangju City and Ssangyong Construction on the 9th, the city conducted the '2019 Second Half Construction Site Inspection' from October 28 to November 29 last year.
The inspection targets were 11 sites including public construction projects ordered by the city and private construction projects permitted by the city, checking progress, site conditions, safety, and environmental management.
As a result, Ssangyong Construction was awarded for its contribution to creating a safe and clean excellent construction site by demonstrating professional construction capabilities and contributing to the development of the local community.
Ssangyong Construction actively utilizes local partner companies in the Gwangju area to contribute to regional development. For example, in the case of reinforced concrete, which accounts for the largest proportion of subcontracting costs, more than 90% (worth about 40 billion KRW) uses local residents or local materials from the Gwangju area.
They have also introduced and established the Safety and Health Management System (KOSHA 18001) at the site, establishing monthly risk factors and improvement measures for all work types.
To create a working environment where workers can voluntarily practice safety, they use morning exercise time to share and spread risk information, designate daily safety managers to conduct active site inspections and worker education, and notably, the Usan-dong regional housing association apartment was selected as a Ministry of Labor autonomous safety management site.
Ssangyong Construction is also committed to health management for construction site workers.
They operate various programs to prevent accidents that are likely to occur in vulnerable construction sites. They lead efforts to protect workers' health through confined space programs to prevent suffocation accidents, hearing preservation programs, and tracking management of workers under intensive care.
Through the establishment of a disaster management system, they regularly conduct role assignments and emergency drills in case of disaster. The drills ensure appropriate measures are taken within the golden time.
From June to August last year, to prevent flood damage during the rainy season, they maintained about 20 sedimentation ponds and drainage channels on site, enabling safe site management despite the passage of an unusually large number of typhoons. Currently, they are preparing for winter accidents by stocking various snow removal tools and snow removal boxes and installing fire extinguishers in underground parking lots and on each apartment floor.
One of the unavoidable issues at construction sites is dust, and here, to minimize dust scattering damage, they operate water spraying trucks daily to clean surrounding roads and spray water inside the site.
Before internal grinding work, they conduct prior checks on external dust barriers and dust collection equipment, making thorough efforts in environmental management from multiple angles.
As a major concern for residents, they establish quality and test management plans. When new processes (materials) are introduced, they obtain prior approval of material suppliers and construction plans and request tests from external quality inspection agencies to review the results. They manage quality test and inspection ledgers and conduct monthly settlement reports through a systematic system.
A significant role in this background was played by Jin Yong-seok, the site manager of Ssangyong Construction.
Holding national technical qualifications (Architectural Construction Engineer and Construction Safety Engineer), he applies professional construction knowledge to the site, operates the site diligently, and conducts thorough site management by personally reviewing systematic processes and safety management plans for all processes including progress, quality, and safety.
Jin Yong-seok, site manager of Ssangyong Construction, said, "Although I received the award on behalf of the entire team, this award means that site management is being properly conducted," and added, "We will do our best to provide apartments of the highest quality that satisfy association members and residents."
Meanwhile, Ssangyong Construction is the number one domestic company in overseas high-end building construction performance and possesses unique technology for high-difficulty construction of luxury buildings.
