"High Possibility That Investigations Targeting Current Administration Will Fizzle Out"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Lee Dong-seop, Acting Floor Leader of the Bareunmirae Party, proposed an immediate Judiciary Committee meeting to the Democratic Party of Korea and the Liberty Korea Party regarding the prosecution personnel reshuffle carried out by Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae on the 9th.
At the party meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Acting Floor Leader Lee said, "Before the plenary session convenes today, we need to open the Judiciary Committee immediately to fully hear the opinions of Minister Choo and Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol on this personnel reshuffle and to inform the public in detail."
Acting Floor Leader Lee criticized, "Article 34 of the Prosecutors' Office Act stipulates that when the Minister of Justice appoints or assigns prosecutors, the opinion of the Prosecutor General must be heard. However, I heard that this process was not followed this time."
He pointed out, "Public opinion on this personnel reshuffle by the Ministry of Justice is very negative. The entire investigative line of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office targeting the current administration, including the allegations of the Blue House's interference in the Ulsan mayoral election and the cover-up of Yoo Jae-soo's inspection, has been replaced. Now, the investigation into these suspicions is highly likely to lose momentum and fizzle out."
