[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 9th that it will strengthen the emergency safety notification service system for socially vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone and severely disabled individuals by expanding emergency management personnel and deploying substitute personnel including employees of the district office, 16 dong administrative welfare centers, Nam-gu Senior Welfare Center staff, dedicated social workers, and life support workers to promptly check on the well-being of service recipients and enhance care services.
First, Nam-gu decided to additionally expand emergency management personnel to strengthen monitoring of emergency safety notification service recipients and prevent work gaps caused by reasons such as annual leave, sick leave, or business trips of the staff in charge.
Also, Nam-gu established a cooperative system with Nam-gu Senior Welfare Center, which performs emergency safety notification service tasks, to deploy Nam-gu Senior Welfare Center staff as substitutes when emergency management personnel are absent.
Furthermore, to reinforce the care system of administrative agencies, the main department within the district office and the dong administrative welfare centers share lists of emergency safety notification service recipients by each dong, enabling dong administrative welfare center staff to promptly visit households when immediate on-site confirmation is necessary.
In addition, to strengthen management of elderly living alone, dedicated social workers and life support workers providing customized elderly care services will be deployed, and to eliminate welfare blind spots, the Happy Welfare 7979 Volunteer Group will be utilized to firmly support and monitor socially vulnerable groups.
Mayor Kim Byeong-nae said, “We will expand necessary personnel to ensure the emergency safety notification service fulfills its role and leave no gaps in building a social safety net. We will comfort the bereaved families and provide support for funeral expenses including round-trip airfare and accommodation costs for organizing belongings and funeral assistance.”
